The 2026 T20 Women's Cricket World Cup begins

The 10th ICC Women's T20 World Cup, organized by the International Cricket Council, will be grandly held from June 12 to July 5, hosted by England and Wales. This year's tournament marks a significant milestone with the participation of 12 teams, an increase of two teams compared to last year's tournament.

A total of 33 matches are scheduled to be played across seven leading stadiums, with the final match set to take place on July 5 at the historic Lord's Cricket Ground in London. New Zealand, who defeated South Africa in the last World Cup final, enters this tournament as the defending champions.

The 12 participating teams are divided into two groups. Group 1 includes Australia, India, South Africa, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands. Host England, New Zealand, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Ireland, and Scotland will compete in Group 2. The top teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals, scheduled for June 30 and July 2. In the event of a tie in points, where 2 points are awarded for a win under the standard T20 scoring system, the Net Run Rate (NRR) will become the decisive factor.

Matches in this tournament will be held at Edgbaston in Birmingham, Old Trafford in Manchester, Hampshire Bowl in Southampton, Headingley in Leeds, Bristol County Ground, as well as The Oval and Lord's Cricket Grounds in London. These stadiums, with seating capacities ranging from 17,500 to 31,100 spectators, feature traditional English climatic conditions that equally assist both batsmen and fast bowlers.

The host England team, led by Nat Sciver-Brunt, enters the field with Dani Wyatt-Hodge, Amy Jones, and Alice Capsey as their strongest players. A strong Indian batting lineup, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, joins the tournament aiming to win this T20 championship after their previous ODI World Cup victory. The New Zealand team, led by experienced Sophie Devine and Suzie Bates, hopes to retain the championship for the second consecutive time, while the always formidable Australian team is strengthened by talented players like Ellyse Perry. The Sri Lankan team, captained by Chamari Atapattu, played against England in the inaugural match. The West Indies, South Africa, Pakistan, and the newly added Netherlands, Ireland, and Scotland are among the other teams.

In the opening night match held at Edgbaston, Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bowl first. England's opening batswomen quickly established dominance in the match with rapid scoring in the initial six overs. In the warm-up matches held before the tournament, Australia and India showed strong performances, and the team standings are rapidly changing after the first few matches.
