Following the match between India 'A' and Sri Lanka 'A' teams in the triangular ODI cricket tournament held in Dambulla, a heated exchange of words occurred between Indian batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi and several Sri Lankan players. This tense situation on the field arose after the Sri Lanka 'A' team recorded a victory in this decisive match, which went down to a Super Over.

In the Super Over, the Indian team, chasing a target of 19 runs for victory, needed 8 runs off the last ball, and Vaibhav failed to properly hit the yorker delivered by Sri Lankan fast bowler Kugadas Mathulan. Subsequently, when the Sri Lankan players began celebrating their victory, a deeply frustrated Vaibhav engaged in an argument with a fielder present there. His teammate Suryansh Shejwal immediately intervened and took him away from the spot, and later, players from both teams shook hands as usual, concluding the match.

The match had previously ended in a tie as both teams scored 265 runs at the end of their allotted 50 overs. India 'A' team, batting first, scored 265 runs all out in 49.2 overs, with Suryansh Shejwal scoring 72 runs off 66 balls and lower-order batsman Vipraj Nigam scoring 51 runs off 49 balls for the Indian innings.

The Sri Lanka 'A' team, playing the reply innings, also managed to score 265 runs at the end of their allotted 50 overs. Sadeera Samarawickrama, the most prominent batsman in the Sri Lankan innings, scored 93 runs off 113 balls, making the main contribution to take the match to a Super Over.

In the Super Over, which was played amidst gradually fading light conditions, the Sri Lankan team, batting first, scored 18 runs, setting India a target of 19 runs. However, due to Kugadas Mathulan's excellent bowling, the Indian team could only score 9 runs in the Super Over, thus, the victory of the match and the 2 bonus points went to the Sri Lankan team.
