The police have succeeded in arresting the main suspect, who had been sought for several days in connection with the discovery of a woman's body inside a car in the Theldeniya area, along with his wife and young child, in the Jaffna area. Police sources confirm that the main suspect arrested is the deceased woman's lover.

The police state that although this suspect appeared before the young woman under the name Dineth Dissanayake, his true name as per his national identity card is Jayasundara Mudiyanselage Champika Srian Jayasundara, and he is a resident of the Narammala area.




Acting on intelligence received, officers from the Jaffna Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau and the Walana Anti-Corruption Unit conducted a joint operation and arrested them early this morning (24) while they were traveling on a bus heading towards Chavakachcheri, Jaffna. It is reported that they boarded this bus from Wellawatte yesterday (23), and at the time of the arrest, the main suspect was wearing a face mask to evade police detection, while his wife was disguised as a Muslim woman.

During police questioning, the suspect stated that he had come from Vavuniya to Kurunegala to see his other two children there and then intended to surrender to the police. However, investigations have revealed that they had also attempted to flee the country by sea, hiding in the Negombo and Chilaw areas over the past few days. Following this successful raid conducted under the full supervision of Assistant Superintendent of Police Rohan Olugala, Director of the Walana Central Anti-Corruption Strike Unit, the suspects are to be handed over to the Nuwara Eliya Police for further investigations.




The body found inside a parked car in the Theldeniya area on the 17th was previously identified as that of Shamya Darshani, a 34-35-year-old woman residing in Weligama, who worked as a physiotherapist at Ampara General Hospital. Her lover, a software engineer residing in Gannoruwa, had fled the area after killing her and leaving the body in the car.

The unraveling of this mysterious murder was prompted by a complaint made to the Nuwara Eliya Police by a resident of Kotawewa, Thalawa. He had requested police assistance on the morning of the 17th to check on his sister, who was residing in an apartment in Nuwara Eliya and had not eaten for several days. Accordingly, a team of Nuwara Eliya police officers inspected the apartment but found no one there. Subsequently, upon examining the installed CCTV footage, it was clearly recorded that the suspect engineer arrived at the house around 9:50 PM on the 16th, stayed for about 40 minutes, and then carried the unconscious young woman out around 10:30 PM, placing her in a car and driving away.
