Bandarawela Police state that an individual or a group of people secretly entered the Bandarawela Divisional Secretariat office, destroyed files, smeared mud on the official seats of the Divisional Secretary and Assistant Divisional Secretary, and then fled. This unauthorized entry into the office premises, located in a three-story building, occurred in the early hours of the eighth day of the previous month.

According to investigations into the incident, the suspect climbed onto the roof with the aid of a wall near the office and entered through an unlocked window. Significant damage was caused by disturbing numerous files inside the office, shredding and tearing them. Subsequently, the suspect entered the cafeteria, consumed several yogurts, prepared and drank coffee. Police found several empty yogurt containers left on the floor at the same location after the suspects had consumed them.

Police express strong suspicion regarding the fact that only one window in this office was left unlocked and open on that day, which was a public holiday. Investigations are also underway to determine if this act was carried out with a motive for revenge. Although there were many valuable assets, including laptop computers, inside the office, it has been confirmed that no money or property was stolen. Police are also investigating whether a drug addict entered with the intention of stealing property.

A senior police officer has revealed information that some employees of this office attended a friendly gathering at another location on the night of the incident. Although a night watchman was on duty at the time of the incident, due to the non-functioning of the CCTV system within the office premises, the police have taken steps to examine camera footage installed in surrounding buildings for investigations. The Divisional Secretary has officially lodged a complaint regarding this incident at the Bandarawela Police Station.
