21-year-old Moulavi arrested for seriously abusing a 14-year-old girl

Police say that a 21-year-old Moulavi residing in the Eregama area has been arrested in connection with a serious sexual abuse incident involving a fourteen-year-old girl. Police state that the Moulavi, who is the main suspect in this crime, had fled the area after the incident.

However, he later surrendered to the Ampara Magistrate's Court through a lawyer on May 20.

Accordingly, the court has ordered the remand of the suspect Moulavi until June 03, 2026. Another 21-year-old youth, also residing in the Eregama area, who is said to have aided and abetted the main suspect in this incident, was initially arrested in connection with the incident. He was remanded after being produced before the Ampara Magistrate's Court on May 09.

The Magistrate ordered the further remand of the second suspect, initially until May 20, and then until June 03. Eregama Police are currently conducting further investigations into the alleged abuse incident.
