04 students drowned to death in Wanathawilluwa

A tragic incident has been reported where four school students drowned and lost their lives after a raft overturned in Mangalapura Villuwa, Bandaranaikapura area, which belongs to the Wanathavilluwa Police Division. This accident occurred when five students were traveling in a small boat to pick flowers in a lake in the area.

At the time of the accident, one student immediately swam ashore and saved his life. The other four students drowned, and three of them died after being transferred from Wanathavilluwa Hospital to Puttalam Base Hospital for further treatment, bringing the total number of students who lost their lives in this accident to four.

The unfortunate victims are a group of 16-year-old students residing in the Bandaranaikapura and Mangalapura areas, who were studying in the 11th grade at a local school. The bodies of the deceased students are currently placed in the mortuary of Puttalam Hospital, and Wanathavilluwa Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
