Local media reports that film actor Thalapathy Vijay, who has now qualified for the Chief Minister's post in Tamil Nadu, has also broken a record set by MGR, who came to this position from Indian cinema in the past. "History repeats itself," stated superstar actor Vijay, leader of the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (T.V.K) party, during his political entry.

He stated that just as Arignar Anna became Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in 1967 and M.G.R. in 1977, a political revolution would occur in Tamil Nadu this time as well. Confirming this statement, his party, the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam, won more than 100 seats in the recently concluded Tamil Nadu state assembly elections, setting a historic record.

Looking back at this history, Arignar Anna, a young graduate, worked with Periyar in the Dravidar Kazhagam party in his early days. Later, on September 17, 1949, he left it and founded the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (D.M.K) party, for which a large number of young people gathered. Subsequently, the D.M.K party also joined the anti-Hindi agitation, and in the 1967 state assembly elections, they defeated the then-powerful Congress party and came to power. Accordingly, Anna was appointed as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

M.G.R., who was a leading star in Tamil cinema at the time, also worked with the D.M.K party for a long time and enjoyed immense public support. However, due to internal disputes, he left the party on October 18, 1972, and founded the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (A.I.A.D.M.K) party. The party achieved its first victory by winning the by-election held in Dindigul, and then, in the 1977 parliamentary elections, allied with the Congress and managed to win 36 seats.

Subsequently, in the Tamil Nadu state assembly elections held in June 1977, the A.I.A.D.M.K party contested in alliance with the Marxist Communist and Forward Bloc parties. When the results of that election, which was a four-cornered contest between A.I.A.D.M.K, D.M.K, Congress, and the Janata Party, were released on June 15, the whole of India was astonished. In its very first state assembly election, the A.I.A.D.M.K party won 130 seats, and the Marxist Communist Party won 12 seats, achieving a magnificent victory. Accordingly, M.G.R. became the Chief Minister of the state with a clear majority.

Similar to the situation back then, this election also saw a four-cornered contest, and Vijay's T.V.K party has recorded a magnificent victory, pushing back both the current ruling party and the party that governed before it. The main similarity between M.G.R. and Vijay is that both are colossal stars in cinema and have garnered immense public appeal. However, while M.G.R. contested his first election in an alliance, it is noteworthy that Vijay achieved this historic victory by contesting alone without any alliance.

Thus, the people have entrusted Vijay with the immense responsibility of governing Tamil Nadu in his very first election. As he stated back then, history has now repeated itself, and members of his party are currently celebrating the joy of this victory with great enthusiasm.
