Pallegama Hemarathana Thero remanded until the 12th

The Colombo Additional Magistrate has ordered that Atamasthanadhipathi Venerable Pallegama Hemarathana Thero, who was arrested on the charge of severely sexually abusing a fifteen-year-old minor girl, be remanded until the upcoming 12th.

This suspect monk was arrested by the police last night while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Colombo. Subsequently, this afternoon, the Colombo Additional Magistrate visited the relevant private hospital and personally observed the suspect monk.

A request made by the police to the court to remand the suspect in order to carry out further investigations related to the incident without hindrance was considered by the Magistrate. Accordingly, the Colombo Additional Magistrate, who issued the relevant remand order, further ordered that the suspect monk be produced before the Anuradhapura Magistrate's Court on the 12th of next month.
