The Colombo Magistrate's Court today (05) ordered the release on bail of Mr. Kapila Chandrasena, the former Chief Executive Officer of SriLankan Airlines, who was in remand custody accused of accepting a two million US dollar bribe in a deal to purchase Airbus aircraft for the company. Bodaragama announced this decision.




The court imposed strict bail conditions on the suspect, and accordingly, the magistrate ordered his release on a cash bail of five hundred thousand rupees and three personal bails of 10 million rupees each. In addition, the court has taken steps to impose a travel ban preventing the suspect from traveling abroad.

When the case was called on the 28th, President's Counsel Rienzie Arsecularatne, appearing for the suspect Mr. Kapila Chandrasena, had submitted the bail application. On that day, officials representing the Bribery Commission expressed their opposition to this bail application.




After extensively considering the facts presented by both parties, the Magistrate announced his decision on the bail application this morning, ordering the suspect's release on bail.
