Welikada Police reported to Colombo Additional Magistrate Nuwan Kaushalya on the 15th that 120 foreigners arrested in the Rajagiriya area had hacked into bank accounts in California, USA, and Saudi Arabia from Sri Lanka. This information was revealed after the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Response Team (SLCERT) examined three computers seized from the suspects, and further investigations are underway regarding other devices.

It was informed to the court that numerous case exhibits, including 151 more computers, 51 laptops, and 266 smartphones taken into police custody, have been submitted for investigation.

It was stated that this racket was operated very subtly and under strict security in a seven-story apartment complex located on Meda Welikada Road, Rajagiriya, and at the time of the arrest, cash and property worth nearly 150 million rupees were taken into police custody. Among the suspects arrested during the raid conducted on the 2nd of this month, 28 individuals have been identified as staying in the country without valid visas. The Magistrate issued notices instructing the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration or his representative to appear before the court to clarify facts regarding this matter.

A group of citizens from China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Madagascar, the Philippines, Thailand, and Cambodia have been remanded in connection with the incident, and prison officials took steps to present them to the court via Zoom technology on that day. As investigations are not yet complete, the Additional Magistrate ordered that the suspects be further remanded until the 22nd.
