An organized gang, pretending to be looking for a house to buy, rendered a retired railway driver's assistant and his wife unconscious and robbed them of gold jewelry worth over 1.2 million rupees, fleeing the scene. This incident has been reported from the Dematagoda police division. According to the police, a men's gold ring, three women's gold rings, and a pair of earrings belonging to the couple, residents of the Maligawatta railway housing complex, were stolen in this manner.Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspects rendered the couple unconscious by making them inhale some chemical substance.

According to police reports, this robbery was meticulously planned and executed by a gang of three, including a woman dressed in a salwar suit. About two weeks prior, this woman, appearing to be around 40 years old, visited the house claiming she wanted to buy a house on an upper floor. She asked for water to drink, engaged in friendly conversation with the residents, gained their trust, and then left.

Subsequently, on the 24th, the woman returned to the house, requesting permission to wait until the owner and the broker of the house she intended to buy arrived. With the residents' permission, she was inside the house talking for about ten minutes when another person, introduced as her husband, also arrived at the location. Both of them remained in the house, waiting for the others to arrive.

A short while later, a person posing as a broker and another young man entered the house, with one of them taking a seat. The other young man remained near the door, attempting to distract the residents. At that moment, the person acting as the broker suddenly covered the retired driver's assistant's mouth, and as he struggled to free himself, the young man by the door took a white cotton ball from his bag and held it to his nose.

As he inhaled the substance, the retired driver's assistant felt dizzy and fell to the ground, and the suspects immediately removed the gold ring from his right ring finger. Although the complainant, lying on the ground, could not get up, he told the police that he was able to observe what the suspects were doing with some awareness.

Simultaneously, the robbers went to his wife, who was preparing lunch in the kitchen, held the same white cotton ball to her nose, and rendered her unconscious. After she fell to the ground, they immediately stole the pair of earrings from her ears and the three gold rings she was wearing on her hand. Police investigations have revealed that the robbers then left the unconscious wife and the incapacitated husband inside the house, closed the front door, and fled immediately. Dematagoda Police have now launched extensive investigations into this cunning theft.
