British residents harassed by unruly tourists' 'TikTok craze'

Due to the craze for taking photos and selfies popularized through TikTok social media, beautiful villages in the United Kingdom are becoming inaccessible to ordinary people. Areas like the Cotswolds, Devon, and the Lake District are now overflowing with tourists and vehicles, and local residents say that the situation has become such that they cannot visit their own villages until September, when the tourist season ends.

Due to the unruly behavior of these tourists, local residents have had to face major problems. Even in areas like Bibury and Bourton-on-the-Water, the arrival of thousands of tourists has made road blockages and noisy environments commonplace. Some tourists illegally park vehicles in front of residents' homes, and there are even reports of arguments when asked to move them.

Local councils and tourism boards have tried to take various measures in this regard, but residents say they do not get real relief from them. For example, although Dartmoor Council has introduced a tiered fee system for two groups, it is stated that this does not deter tourists from visiting. Moreover, despite claims of income from tourism, residents are greatly inconvenienced by the loss of peace and privacy in their villages.

This problem is not limited to England but has also severely affected areas like Edinburgh and the Isle of Skye in Scotland. The large influx of tourists leads to traffic congestion, waste disposal problems, and a risk of damage to historical sites. Therefore, residents are urging authorities to impose strict regulations to control tourists.

It is predicted that the number of people visiting these tourist-attracting places through social media will further increase in the future. However, maintaining a balance between this tourist craze and the rights of local residents has become a timely necessity, and if not properly managed, it is highly probable that many more beautiful villages will become areas exclusively for tourists.
