It is reported that Ellawala Liyanage Dharmasiri Perera, also known as "Alto Dharme," a prominent underworld gang leader who is said to have orchestrated various murders and organized crimes in Sri Lanka from Dubai, has been arrested by the police in the United Arab Emirates. During a special operation conducted on the night of the 23rd, the suspect, along with his wife and three close associates, was taken into police custody.

According to information received, quoting a high-ranking police officer involved in anti-underworld operations in the country, this group was arrested during a special party held at a luxury hotel in the Emirates.

International Police (Interpol) had also issued Red Notices for the arrest of this criminal, who had been evading local security forces and hiding abroad for a long time. He is also accused of being the main planner behind the shooting and killing of Mr. Ranjan de Silva, the father of the current captain of the Sri Lanka Test cricket team, Dhananjaya de Silva, and a former municipal councilor who represented the Podujana Eksath Peramuna in the then Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia Municipal Council.

According to police investigation reports, Mr. Ranjan de Silva was brutally shot and killed in front of his house in Ratmalana in 2017. Police teams that conducted extensive investigations into the incident at the time had revealed that this murder was entirely planned and orchestrated from Dubai by this underworld leader named Alto Dharme. Since then, this individual and his associates, who had been evading international police scrutiny and orchestrating a wave of crimes in the country while residing abroad, were caught in the net of the security forces there while holding a celebratory party at a luxury hotel.
