Intelligence agencies have revealed that a planned smear campaign is underway to sabotage special operations aimed at bringing back dangerous underworld criminals hiding abroad. This involves making various baseless accusations, creating false news, and broadcasting various discussions through YouTube channels, targeting Assistant Superintendent of Police Rohan Olugala and other security force officers.
Information has been received that this organized smear campaign is being launched by several underworld gang leaders, including Kanjipani Imran, who are currently residing abroad.Sri Lanka's security forces have already launched a wide range of investigations to apprehend a group of dangerous underworld leaders hiding abroad. It is reported that underworld gang members have resorted to such tactical measures with the narrow objective of breaking the morale of police officers actively involved in these investigations and hindering their official duties.
It has been revealed that Assistant Superintendent of Police Rohan Olugala, who is engaged in the arduous task of bringing underworld criminals residing abroad before the law in this country, is currently facing even death threats from various parties. He has officially complained to the Inspector General of Police regarding these severe security threats he is facing.
Meanwhile, it has been observed that a suspicious audio recording directly damaging the reputation of the Assistant Superintendent of Police is circulating widely on various social media networks these days. The police have already launched investigations, paying special attention to the individuals who are circulating and promoting this fake audio recording.
The audio recording presents a discussion between Kanjipani Imran and a person named Arun, who are underworld criminals residing abroad, and various statements are made, including the name of Mr. Rohan Olugala. The criminal Kanjipani Imran attempts to show through this audio recording that Mr. Rohan Olugala has taken money from underworld gangs and traveled to countries like Belarus, Cambodia, and Malaysia.
However, preliminary investigations have revealed that the Assistant Superintendent of Police has never visited those countries. This confirms that this audio recording was deliberately fabricated to tarnish Mr. Olugala's reputation and to subject him to the criticism of senior police officers.
Recently, Deputy Minister of Public Security Sunil Watagala, speaking at a special program organized for World Youth Day, also praised the service of this officer. The Deputy Minister addressed the gathering, stating that while some police officers in the past obtained international red warrants and went abroad, they failed to bring criminals back to the country and returned empty-handed. However, the Deputy Minister further stated that the current Assistant Superintendent of Police Rohan Olugala has successfully brought a large number of underworld criminals hiding abroad back to the country using these red warrants.
