A brother arrested on suspicion of the death of a person who died after being assaulted and lying on the ground for two days.

One of two brothers from the same family has been arrested by Grandpass Police in connection with an incident where a person was severely assaulted, left to lie on the ground for two days, and subsequently died after being hospitalized. The person brutally murdered in this manner was 57-year-old Saman Palitha Kumarasinghe, a resident of Paliyagoda, Nelligahawatta, Negombo Road area.

The individual, who sustained serious injuries from the assault and was receiving treatment in hospital for 23 days, recently succumbed to his injuries.




According to police investigations, on April 23rd, an argument occurred between the deceased, who had been consuming alcohol, and the suspect's mother. It has been revealed that during this incident, the woman's two sons intervened and severely assaulted the deceased. Due to the severity of the attack, the individual was unable to even get up and remained fallen at the same spot for two days. Subsequently, on April 25th, he was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital. While receiving treatment there, he passed away on the 17th of this month.

Following the receipt of the post-mortem report regarding the incident, the police have launched a comprehensive investigation, documenting it as a homicide. Based on the information received, police officers have succeeded in arresting a main suspect directly involved in the assault. The arrested individual is a 21-year-old youth residing in the Muwadora Uyana apartment complex on Ferguson Road, Grandpass.




Special search operations are currently underway to apprehend the other suspect involved in this crime, who is the brother of the arrested youth. Further investigations into this matter are being conducted under the direct instructions and guidance of Grandpass Police Station OIC, Chief Police Inspector Kithsiri Kumara.
