Achinth Mihiranga Rathnayake, a student of Wayamba Royal College, Kurunegala, has succeeded in securing the first place island-wide in the Arts stream at the 2025 G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination.

He achieved this outstanding success by securing the highest grades in Korean, Japanese, and Information and Communication Technology subjects. It is also noteworthy that this is the first time Wayamba Royal College, with a history of thirty-five years, has achieved such a high national-level examination success.

Achinth, a resident of Metiyagane, Beligala, Kegalle, received his primary education from Alawwa Rathanalankara College. Subsequently, he was admitted to Kurunegala Defence Services College, where he managed to obtain nine distinctions at the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination. Due to his strong passion for studying languages, he chose Wayamba Royal College, which holds a prominent position in the Wayamba Province for international language teaching, for his Advanced Level studies.

In addition to Sinhala and English, Achinth possesses the unique ability to fluently handle foreign languages such as Korean, Japanese, and German. Not limited to academic activities, he has also served as a student leader and a talented announcer at school. He participated in an annual workshop organized by the International Korean Language Foundation in South Korea, where he succeeded in securing the first place in the Korean Cultural Poetry Recitation category among ninety-eight students representing thirty-five countries.

Achinth's father, Mr. Udaya Priya Shantha Rathnayake, is a retired Air Force officer and is currently employed abroad. His mother, Mrs. Nilanthi Nadee Kumari, is a housewife. Achinth's only younger sister, Adithya Thilakshana Rathnayake, is currently studying and is scheduled to sit for the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination at Maliyadeva Balika Vidyalaya, Kurunegala.

Achinth states that to succeed in the examination, one must maintain a clear goal from the beginning of the Advanced Level studies. He emphasizes the importance of choosing subjects one likes and has an aptitude for, rather than being influenced by others or following trends. He also mentions that balanced attention should be given to all three chosen subjects, and that he sought clarification from teachers and friends without hesitation regarding issues encountered both at school and during tuition classes. He further stated that waking up early without laziness and conducting revision activities according to a systematic plan is the secret to his success.

Achinth Mihiranga expressed his gratitude to the former principal H.M. Ariyadasa, who recently retired from service, the current acting principal Prabath Dissanayake, the Head of the Advanced Level Arts Section Prasad Jayasundara, and the class teacher Anusha Basnayake, as well as the entire teaching staff of the school and extra classes, for their immense support in making his educational endeavors successful.
