President Anura Kumara Dissanayake joined the New Year celebration held this morning (14) at the new home of Mr. Indrajith Sampath Senaratne of Galnewa, Anuradhapura, which was destroyed by Cyclone Ditwa, participating in the Sinhala and Tamil New Year rituals.

Mr. Indrajith Sampath Senaratne's new house in Galnewa has been constructed within a period of three months under the compensation provided for houses completely damaged by the Ditwa disaster that occurred last November, and it is one of the six new houses being built in the Galnewa Divisional Secretariat Division for completely damaged houses. Furthermore, compensation has now been paid for 66 partially damaged houses in this Divisional Secretariat Division.

The President celebrated Avurudu with them.

Meanwhile, the official cultural ceremony for performing New Year auspicious rituals was held at Darshana Weerasinghe's house in Gampaha, and Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, Cultural Minister Hiniduma Sunil Senewi, and other dignitaries participated in that Avurudu celebration.
