
Yesterday (16), during a special search operation launched by the Navy in the deep sea south of Sri Lanka, a multi-day fishing vessel transporting a stock of drugs worth over 4 billion rupees was taken into custody.
Deputy Minister of Defence, Mr. Aruna Jayasekara, also participated in observing this stock of drugs taken into naval custody, and further investigations conducted by the Police Narcotics Bureau officially confirmed that the type of drug found on the vessel was heroin.
It is also reported that the total weight of this stock of heroin, which was meticulously packed in six sacks inside the vessel, is over 150 kilograms.
After the four suspects who were traveling on the multi-day fishing vessel taken into naval custody along with the drug stock were brought ashore, they were arrested by the Police Narcotics Bureau, and further legal action regarding the matter is currently underway.
