A chief henchman of Badovita Asanka, considered a powerful underworld leader who has fled to Dubai and is hiding there, has been arrested by the police with a stock of heroin worth over four and a half crore rupees. Security forces found over three kilograms and one hundred and fifty grams of heroin in the possession of this suspect, a resident of Dehiwala.
This forty-nine-year-old suspect, known in the underworld as Sanjeeva Fernando alias "Two Tone," had rented a house in the Ratmalana area and was operating this drug trafficking ring. The stock of heroin hidden in that rented house was being prepared for distribution to drug networks in several surrounding areas when he was caught by the law.
According to investigating officers, he is not an ordinary drug trafficker but has received special training to evade police raids. The police also state that he has extensive experience in misleading security forces, cleverly escaping during raids, and obtaining legal cover by exploiting loopholes in the law.
This operation was launched by the Walana Central Anti-Corruption Strike Force, operating under the direct supervision of Inspector General of Police (Attorney-at-Law) Priyantha Weerasuriya. A team of officers, including Sub-Inspector Chathuranga, participated in this raid, which was carried out under the orders of the force's director, Assistant Superintendent of Police Rohan Olugala, and the guidance of OIC Chief Inspector Indika Weerasinghe. Police Sergeants Wijerathne (409) and Sampath (74313), as well as Police Constables Ashan (39850), Jayasinghe (93728), Hemantha (100683), Sreemantha (105123), Jayasundara (102726), Perera (106039), and Woman Police Constable Samitha (13103) also contributed.
