A shortage of Fresh Milk in the market

there-is-a-shortage-of-fresh-milk-in-the-market

Due to the severe risk of price increases and the fear associated with it, one-liter fresh milk packets have almost completely disappeared from many shops in Sri Lanka. Throughout the past weekend and on Monday, these large-sized fresh milk packets were not seen on the shelves of supermarkets across the island, and only small-sized milk packets and various flavored milk types were left for consumers to purchase.

According to current market prices, a one-liter fresh milk packet under major brands like Ambewela and Kothmale is sold at a retail price between Rs. 470 and Rs. 550. Additionally, a 900ml Highland Full Cream UHT milk packet released to the market by the state-owned Milco company is priced at Rs. 380.

The creation of such a shortage of goods or the artificial hoarding of goods directly causes market prices to rise further. In such a situation, consumers will inevitably have to change their daily consumption patterns and turn to other alternative substitutes that can be used for milk.
