Seven powerful members connected to organized crime gangs have been transferred from Boossa High-Security Prison to a newly established special high-security detention center at the Welisara Naval Base. Deputy Minister of Defense, Mr. Aruna Jayasekara, stated that the transfer took place yesterday.

The group transferred includes several well-known and powerful figures from the country's underworld. Accordingly, criminals such as "Wele Suda", "Dematagoda Chaminda", "Loku Pati", "Midigama Ruwan", "Backhoe Saman", "Army Sampath", and "Manna Ramesh" have been sent to the new detention center.

Intelligence reports indicating that some of these detainees continued to operate their criminal networks even while incarcerated at Boossa Prison primarily influenced this decision. Additionally, authorities point out that concerns regarding the personal safety of these high-profile detainees also contributed to this swift action.

This newly constructed prison within the Welisara Naval Base premises is equipped with more extensive and stringent security measures. This group of individuals are the first detainees to be admitted to this new facility, which is specifically designated for holding high-risk organized criminals.
