
A 28-year-old Chinese national, who was residing on rent on the second floor of a four-story apartment complex named 'Kent Residence' located on Peiris Mawatha, Kalubowila, was stabbed to death with a sharp weapon yesterday (23) evening. At the same time, another Chinese national, said to be her friend, was also stabbed and sustained serious injuries.
The Chinese national suspected of committing this crime has already fled the area, and the Criminal Investigation Division of the Kohuwala Police has launched a special investigation to apprehend him.The Chinese young woman who was killed has been identified as Liwa Wiyan. According to police sources, she had rented the house in this apartment complex and moved in about two months ago. Information has revealed that the suspect who committed this inhumane murder and fled is the deceased woman's boyfriend, and a senior police officer speculates that a dispute arising from a romantic relationship might have led to this crime. Acting swiftly on special information received via the police emergency hotline, officers went to the apartment and found the body during their inspection. Accordingly, the police arrived at the crime scene and immediately commenced preliminary investigations.
According to information revealed by police investigations conducted so far, officers strongly suspect that the murder was committed by the deceased woman's ex-boyfriend.
It has been further revealed that the suspect boyfriend had rented a house adjacent to the deceased woman's residence about three days prior and was staying there.
It is also reported that he might have deliberately planned and carried out this murder, and that the other Chinese young man who was assaulted is the deceased woman's current boyfriend. Information is emerging that the young woman was involved in a love triangle, and due to issues arising from it, she had left her former boyfriend, and the murder might have been committed with a motive for revenge.
It is suspected that this murder was committed due to a love dispute.
The Chinese young woman who was subjected to the assailant's knife attack died at the scene, and the police found her body in the house.
Meanwhile, to prevent the suspect Chinese national, who committed the murder and fled, from leaving the country, the police have taken steps to provide all information about him to the authorities at Katunayake and Mattala airports. Instructions have also been given to immediately arrest him if he arrives at an airport. Under the guidance of Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Sanjeewa Dharmaratne, in charge of the Western Province, and Deputy Inspector General of Police Samantha Wijesekera, in charge of the Western South District, and under the direction of Senior Superintendent of Police Ashoka Gunasekara, in charge of the Mount Lavinia Division, the Criminal Investigation Division of the Kohuwala Police is conducting further investigations into this incident.
