Fifty-year-old Tiger Woods, an internationally renowned golfer, was arrested by police yesterday (27) afternoon after being involved in a car accident near his home in Jupiter Island, Florida, USA. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) of drugs or alcohol, and the accident occurred around 2:00 PM on South Beach Road.

Although no one was injured, he was charged with three misdemeanors, including driving with property damage and refusing to submit to a lawful test. Woods, who was held at Martin County Jail, was released on bail that night after the mandatory detention period.

According to Martin County Sheriff John Budensick's comments to the media, Woods was driving his black Range Rover at high speed at the time of the accident. At that moment, a white pickup truck towing a trailer with pressure cleaning equipment, which was driving ahead, slowed down to turn off the road, and Woods attempted to overtake it. Although Woods swerved his vehicle to the other side to avoid a collision, it hit the rear of the pickup, causing the Range Rover to overturn onto the driver's side. No one was harmed in the accident, and Woods safely exited the vehicle through the passenger side door.

Police officers who responded immediately to the accident observed abnormalities in Woods' behavior, and later released photos clearly showed his eyes were red. Officers conducted several field sobriety tests, also taking into account Woods' previous foot and back surgeries. Although a breathalyzer test confirmed no alcohol in his system, he was arrested for refusing an order to provide a urine sample, which is a standard procedure when alcohol use is not confirmed in a suspicious situation. Following normal legal procedure, officers then took steps to detain him in jail for at least eight hours.

This is the second time Tiger Woods has been arrested in Florida and the fourth major car accident in his life. Previously, in 2017, he was found guilty of driving under the influence of pain medication and falling asleep, and in 2021, he faced a serious car accident in California. After tearing his Achilles tendon in March 2025 and undergoing back surgery in October of the same year, he returned to competitive golf just two days before the accident, on March 25, at the TGL final. However, neither Woods nor his agent Mark Steinberg has yet issued any official statement regarding this latest incident.
