According to the latest data released by the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO), the air quality in several urban areas of Sri Lanka has reached an unhealthy level during the past 24 hours.
According to the Sri Lanka Air Quality Index (SL AQI), the air quality values in Kotte, Galle Fort, and Galle range between 77 and 119, primarily due to the increased concentration of very fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in the air.
As of this morning, the highest air pollution level was reported from the Kotte area, with a value of 119, making it the most affected area under the current conditions.
Additionally, it is further reported that the air quality in Kolonnawa, Dambulla, Kegalle, Anuradhapura, and Polonnaruwa areas is at a "slightly unhealthy" level.
Therefore, health authorities and the National Building Research Organisation have advised sensitive groups such as young children, elderly individuals, and those suffering from respiratory illnesses to take proper precautionary measures and limit spending extended periods outdoors until the air quality improves.
