Russian Deputy Energy Minister to arrive on the island tomorrow (26) to sign the agreement to provide fuel to Sri Lanka.

Diplomatic level discussions are currently underway between Sri Lanka and Russia to enter into a Government-to-Government agreement for the purchase of fuel. Concurrently, Russian Deputy Minister of Energy, Mr. Roman Marshavin, is scheduled to arrive in the island tomorrow (26).




Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath has also confirmed the visit of the Russian Deputy Minister, and the Minister plans to hold special discussions with him upon his arrival in the island on March 26.

Speaking at the weekly media briefing to announce Cabinet decisions, Cabinet Spokesperson, Minister Nalinda Jayatissa, stated that the government expects to further discuss the next steps and agreements regarding fuel imports from Russia extensively with the Deputy Minister during this official visit.




Meanwhile, Minister Nalinda Jayatissa also revealed details about the country's current fuel reserves and future orders. Accordingly, there is currently a reserve of 134,000 metric tons of diesel with confirmed shipments, and another 124,000 metric tons of diesel have been ordered for April. The Minister pointed out that these stocks would be sufficient until the second week of May.

Additionally, he further stated that the country currently possesses a reserve of 151,456 metric tons of petrol with confirmed shipments, and another 55,300 metric tons of petrol have been ordered for the requirement in April.
