Kavitharan, the media spokesperson for the Faculty of Arts Students' Union of Jaffna University, has leveled strong criticism, accusing that Jaffna University is currently undergoing systematic Sinhalization and that it is a deliberately created situation. Speaking to the media yesterday (20) while joining a protest organized in front of the university premises, he revealed these facts.
He pointed out that lecture activities in various academic departments within the university have been converted to the English medium without any protest, and that through this process, the Sinhalization program is being implemented by admitting more Sinhala students to the university. Stating that this is a very serious problem, the media spokesperson also emphasized that Jaffna University is not merely an educational institution but also a traditional heritage of the Tamil people and a primary stronghold representing their struggle and culture.
He questioned the authorities whether this is the change the current government, which came to power promising the people to change such adverse practices of the past, offers to the student community. Furthermore, the student union representative stated that no difference can be seen between the previous government and the current government in the face of such actions.
