
In connection with the incident where two women were drugged, rendered unconscious, and murdered in the Vavnativu area of Batticaloa, a pharmacy owner, who allegedly supplied the drugs used for the crime, has been arrested by officers of the Batticaloa Provincial Investigation Team.
Previously, the Provincial Criminal Investigation Division succeeded in apprehending several suspects in connection with this inhumane abduction, murder, and robbery. Accordingly, three individuals directly involved in the murder process and two businessmen who were in possession of the stolen gold jewelry are currently in custody.
Based on information revealed by the three main suspects currently detained and interrogated under court orders in connection with the murder, investigations were further expanded. As a result, on the 28th, police officers were able to discover a stock of drugs, suspected to have been used to render the women unconscious, buried in the compound of a female suspect's house.
During further interrogations of the suspects in custody, they confessed that the relevant drugs were purchased from a pharmacy located in the Wattala area. After confirming this information, a team of provincial investigation officers immediately proceeded to the Negombo area and took the owner of the said Wattala pharmacy into custody.
The arrested pharmacy owner was scheduled to be produced before the Batticaloa Magistrate's Court yesterday (30). Furthermore, the police are currently working to obtain the necessary court orders to further detain and interrogate him with the aim of conducting a more comprehensive investigation into the incident.
