Heiyanthuduwa car accident: Warrant for Asoka Ranwala

A case filed by the Sapugaskanda Police against former Speaker and Member of Parliament Mr. Asoka Sapumal Ranwala regarding a road accident that occurred in the Heyiyanthuduwa, Denimulla area, was recalled last Friday (13) before Additional Magistrate Mr. Bandara Ilangasinghe at the Mahara No. 02 Court. There, due to Mr. Asoka Sapumal Ranwala's failure to appear before the court, an order was issued to issue a warrant for his arrest.

On the same day, the Traffic Division of the Sapugaskanda Police also filed a charge sheet against Mr. Asoka Sapumal Ranwala in court. The charges included failure to prevent a road accident, reckless driving, causing grievous injuries, causing minor injuries, and driving a vehicle unfit for use and causing grievous injuries.

The said road accident occurred when a jeep driven by the Member of Parliament collided with a car and a motorcycle. In that accident, a mother, a child about seven months old, and the child's grandmother, all from the same family traveling in the car, were injured. The further hearing of this case has been postponed until July 10th.
