A lawyer and his wife were killed on the spot in a shooting that occurred this afternoon (13) near a supermarket located in Thalangama, Akuregoda, and further details are now being revealed. Police have now revealed that the victims of the murder are lawyer Buddhika Mallawaarachchi, a resident of Pitigala area, and his wife.

This brutal attack occurred around 5:00 PM while the couple was inside their Toyota Yaris car, which was parked in front of the supermarket. Preliminary investigations have confirmed that two armed individuals, who arrived in another car, fired about ten rounds using a T-56 type firearm and then fled the scene.
CCTV footage shows that the vehicle carrying the assassins waited nearby until the victims' vehicle was ready to leave, then blocked it, preventing it from exiting the parking lot. At that moment, CCTV evidence shows the two assassins quickly getting out of their vehicle and approaching the car where the lawyer and his wife were, carrying firearms. At that time, the car windows were closed, and it appears that one of them aimed a firearm at the lawyer and the other at his wife, carrying out the murders.

Police state that the deceased lawyer had previously represented an organized criminal known as 'Karandeniya Sudda' in court cases. Security forces strongly suspect that Karandeniya Sudda himself orchestrated these murders, angered by the lawyer providing confidential information about his client to another criminal named 'Loku Pati'.

Several police teams, including three from Thalangama Police, have already been assigned to conduct extensive investigations into this double murder. This incident highlights the risks lawyers who represent individuals connected to the underworld face in their professional lives.
