An employee of a care service agency, who had come to look after an elderly couple aged 82 and 85 living in a house on Paropakara Mawatha, Boralesgamuwa, was arrested while absconding after stealing a stock of gold jewelry worth over thirteen and a half lakhs of rupees and cash from that house. The suspect had also stolen twelve thousand rupees and was arrested by the Boralesgamuwa Police on the 1st of last month while hiding in the Rattanapitiya area.




Police revealed that this forty-one-year-old individual, a resident of the Kosgoda area, had come to work to care for the couple on December 3rd last year through a private care service agency. During the investigation into the suspect's past, police investigations also revealed that he had been imprisoned 11 times previously on charges including possession of heroin.

Acting on a complaint made by the residents on December 7th last year regarding this theft, the police began investigations and searched the suspect's house in Kosgoda, but he had already fled the house by then. Meanwhile, realizing that the police were pursuing him, the suspect had arranged for all the stolen gold items to be returned to the complainant's house on the 24th of last month through a courier service agency located in Narahenpita, and it is reported that these items have been taken into police custody.




The Boralesgamuwa Police, who continuously launched operations to arrest the suspect, succeeded in arresting him in the Rattanapitiya area, and during questioning, he admitted to committing the said theft.
