President Anura Kumara Dissanayake this morning (11th) met the people employed in the estates located around the Nanuoya, Radella shortcut and engaged in a friendly discussion with them.
On that occasion, the estate workers warmly welcomed the President, and it is reported that they extended their special appreciation and gratitude to the President regarding the recent increase in their wages.
The people who spoke to the media here stated that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is the only head of state in history who, not merely stopping at increasing wages, came to an estate to inquire into the real problems and living conditions of the estate workers.
Meanwhile, with the new daily wage of Rs. 1750 being received yesterday, the estate workers in the Bagawantalawa area also went to the kovils this morning and conducted special religious rituals.
After those offerings made to bless the government and the President, they happily reported back to their workplaces, and they gratefully recalled that this was the highest wage increment they had received in history without any strike or struggle.
