A 25-year-old final year student of the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Moratuwa was arrested by the Moratuwa Headquarters Police on the night of the 3rd, after a stock of drugs and money suspected to have been earned from drug sales were found in his possession.




Following a confidential tip-off received by the university's security division that the student had drugs in his possession, which was then reported to the police, a team of police officers arrived and subjected the suspect student to a search.

During the search, the police found 11 grams and 330 milligrams of 'Ice' drug, 5 grams and 22 milligrams of hash, 24 grams and 50 milligrams of cannabis, 2 narcotic pills, and 15 narcotic stamps in the student's possession, along with Rs. 59,000 in cash, which was also taken into police custody.




Police suspect that the suspect has been selling drugs to university students for some time, and investigations are underway through several avenues regarding how he obtained these drugs and the trafficking operation. It is also reported that the university administration is scheduled to launch an internal investigation into the incident.

According to reporters Mattegoda Shantha Pradeep Kumara Kularatne and Dehiwala H.M. Dharmapala, the arrested suspect was scheduled to be produced before the Moratuwa Magistrate's Court yesterday (04).
