22-year-old woman in Mount Lavinia with weapons and drugs

Following extensive questioning of a 22-year-old woman suspected of involvement in organized crime and drug trafficking, the Mount Lavinia Headquarters Police have successfully recovered a shotgun cartridge marked "BRENNEKE" (manufactured in Russia), a stock of fake vehicle number plates, and 10,260 milligrams of 'Ice' drug. According to information provided by the suspect, who is currently held under a detention order obtained from the court, these items were taken into police custody on the 11th of last month during a search of a rented house located on Flower Avenue, Pirivena Road, Mount Lavinia.

The foundation for these investigations was laid by a raid conducted a few days ago by officers of the Moratuwa Police Special Task Force camp in the Jayasumanarama Road area of Ratmalana. The suspect was initially arrested by a team including Police Inspector Silva, the OIC of the Organized Crime Raids Unit of that camp, while in possession of 19,350 milligrams of 'Ice' drug, and was subsequently handed over to the Mount Lavinia Headquarters Police for further investigations.

Subsequently, under the guidance of Mount Lavinia Headquarters Chief Police Inspector Chaminda Hettiarachchi, further investigations were carried out by Sub-Inspector Milan Rajapaksha, OIC of the Anti-Corruption Division, based on a detention order obtained after presenting the suspect to the court. During this, the police discovered the aforementioned cartridge, allegedly given to her by a prominent trafficker, as well as 15 fake number plates prepared for use on motorcycles, trishaws, and motor cars, hidden in the rented house.

The police have now launched a broad investigation to ascertain whether various criminal activities have been carried out in the Mount Lavinia, Kohuwala, and Dehiwala areas using these fake number plates during the recent past. The Mount Lavinia Headquarters Police further states that the 22-year-old suspect currently in custody will be further questioned to uncover other information about the criminal network and individuals connected to it.
