We are not afraid of Pelawatte Dobil, who uses foul language... A press conference from a new young woman of the Pohottuwa.

The following views were expressed at a press conference held by a new political activist of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna.

"In the past few days, we have been preparing a big program to revive the activities of the Podujana Youth Front. As the first step, a youth conference was held in Kiribathgoda, Kelaniya electorate. So, I also received an invitation to speak at that conference. However, the speech I made at that time has been taken and distorted, and the 'Mud Brigade' of the compass government has started slandering me through social media. Well, we know that's how they are.

Especially, I need to say that there's a person named Sudath Thilakasiri, who is trying to shut us up by using foul language on his YouTube channel. All of this is orchestrated from Pelawatte. What I want to ask is, our Prime Minister Harini talks a lot about women's rights and violence against women, doesn't she? If she can't tolerate a small comment made about her, then why is it considered acceptable when women from the other side of politics are verbally abused in such a demeaning way? Can only those from the 'compass' (JVP/NPP) do politics in this country?

According to the constitution of this country, anyone has the right to hold any political opinion they prefer. Therefore, we will not allow this 'mud brigade' to shut us up. I say, before giving money to these people to utter obscenities, those in high positions in the National People's Power (NPP) should think a little about their own mothers and fathers at home. With the same respect they show to their family members, they should allow other women in the country to engage in politics. We will not remain silent out of fear of orders from above.

All this commotion started because of a statement I made about Mr. Namal Rajapaksa. I said that Namal Rajapaksa's vision is 10-15 years "ahead". They misunderstood it as "ago". Either they have a literacy problem or it's jealousy. But no matter how you look at it, the major developments in this country happened before 2015. Even today, the current government is using the highways and the Port City that were built back then. Therefore, what we have is a vision that is suitable for the future and goes hand-in-hand with technology.

We hope to create a good place for the youth of this country by 2029. Now, this government is trying to bring in educational reforms. We say reforms are good, but don't play with the future of children. In 2015, it was us who introduced technology as a subject to schools. That's the kind of education we need – one that is suitable for the world and incorporates new things. We would be happy if our children surpass us and develop further.

The other thing is that this government seems to have forgotten a bit about Buddhism and history. The President goes to Jaffna and talks various things about temple lands. It's not good to forget the history of places like Sri Maha Bodhi and Nagadeepa. Also, we do not approve of imprisoning monks or insulting them. We are against trying to instill in these young children's minds that there is no religion or race. We must move forward while preserving our culture and our identity. As stated in Buddhism, we should engage in politics that respects others by comparing them to ourselves."
