Three family members, including Ms. Yalini Rajendran, a municipal councilor representing the National People's Power in the Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia Municipal Council, were injured and hospitalized after a sharp weapon attack by a robber who entered her house located on Gregory Road, Dehiwala.
Yesterday (03) around 2:30 PM, a person reportedly addicted to drugs entered the councilor's house with the intention of robbery, and when the residents became alarmed, the suspect carried out this brutal assault.
During the incident, the suspect cut and injured the councilor's right hand with a knife, and when her son intervened, the suspect also attacked him with a sharp weapon, causing injuries, police said.
Later, the councilor's father attempted to apprehend the suspect who tried to flee. The suspect then grabbed a brass flower pot from the house and hit the father on the head, causing him serious injuries.
Upon hearing the residents' screams, neighbors immediately rushed to the scene, apprehended the suspect, and handed him over to the Dehiwala Police. The injured councilor, her father, and her son were admitted to the South Colombo Teaching Hospital for treatment.
