According to the latest data reports released by the Sri Lanka Department of Meteorology, minimum temperatures were recorded in several major cities across the island on January 27, 2026. According to these data, the lowest temperature on the island was recorded in the Nuwara Eliya area of the central highlands, with a value of 12.4 degrees Celsius.

Additionally, weather maps confirm that low-temperature values of 15.9 degrees Celsius were recorded in the Bandarawela area and 18.4 degrees Celsius in the Badulla area.




Looking at other parts of the island, a minimum temperature of 20.7 degrees Celsius was recorded in the Katugastota area and 21.8 degrees Celsius in the Ratnapura area. While the temperature in Jaffna city, located in the north, was recorded as 22.0 degrees Celsius, temperatures in Vavuniya and Anuradhapura areas were reported as 22.4 degrees Celsius and 23.2 degrees Celsius respectively. Furthermore, it is noteworthy that the minimum temperature in Kurunegala, Puttalam, and Maha Iluppallama areas also remained around 22 degrees Celsius.

Considering coastal regional cities, the minimum temperature in Colombo city was recorded as 24.6 degrees Celsius, and in Ratmalana and Galle areas as 24.5 degrees Celsius and 24.7 degrees Celsius respectively. On the eastern coast, a value of 23.9 degrees Celsius was reported from the Batticaloa area, while in the Trincomalee area it was 25.2 degrees Celsius. According to these reports, the highest minimum temperatures were recorded in Mannar and Mullaitivu areas, with values of 25.6 degrees Celsius and 25.5 degrees Celsius respectively, as announced by the Department of Meteorology.
