The government has made an important decision with the aim of elevating Sri Lanka's university system in global ranking indices. This is expected to steer the country's higher education sector towards a new path.
Under the university internationalization program, developing educational cooperation with foreign universities has been identified as an essential factor. Accordingly, the Cabinet approved the proposal submitted by the Prime Minister to enter into several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) for a period of five years.Under this program, a special Memorandum of Understanding is to be signed between the Sri Lanka Bhiksu University and Mahamakut Buddhist University in Thailand. This is expected to foster educational and cultural ties between the faculties and students of both countries. Additionally, collaborative research, academic workshops, and conferences will also be conducted through this agreement. Furthermore, the Sri Lanka Bhiksu University is also preparing to enter into an MoU with the Nalanda Institute in Jakarta, Indonesia. This agreement will provide opportunities to further develop cooperation in the fields of education, research, and community services, and to facilitate the exchange of knowledge among foreign experts and lecturers.
In addition, an agreement to enhance educational cooperation is to be signed between the University of Colombo and the SGH Warsaw School of Economics in Poland. Under this agreement, plans are in place to conduct joint research in the field of economics, publish joint publications, and implement student and staff exchange programs.
