A female computer engineer, who allegedly released her ex-boyfriend's nude photos to social media due to a dispute with him, has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The police confirm that the 25-year-old woman, a resident of Kantharmadam area in Jaffna, who has thus been caught by the law, is a computer engineer by profession.
This investigation was initiated based on a complaint made by a young man, also a resident of the Jaffna area, to the Computer Crime Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department. The young man had complained that his ex-girlfriend had disseminated his nude photos through a WhatsApp group, and based on this complaint, the Northern Province Unit of the Computer Crime Investigation Division launched a comprehensive investigation.
During these investigations, it was revealed that the nude photos in question were released online by the complainant's ex-girlfriend. It was further revealed that the couple had been in a long-term relationship for about fifteen years, and recently, when the boyfriend decided to break up with her, the suspect fell into severe mental distress and pain. Police investigations further revealed that she was prompted to publish these photos as an act of revenge to satisfy the anger and distress caused by her boyfriend leaving her.
The arrested suspect was produced before the Jaffna Magistrate's Court and subsequently released on bail. Further investigations into the incident are being carried out by a team of officers, including Inspector Madhukumara, the OIC of the Northern Province Unit, under the instructions of Chief Police Inspector S.K. Karunaratne, the OIC of the Computer Crime Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department.
