Cinnamon Air plane with only two pilots on board met with an accident at Gregory Lake - no casualties.

A small passenger aircraft belonging to Cinnamon Air, which came to land at Gregory Lake in Nuwara Eliya, met with an accident on the afternoon of January 07, 2026. Police state that the accident occurred while attempting to land at Gregory Lake amidst strong winds.




The aircraft involved in the accident is a Cessna 208 Caravan Amphibian with registration number 4R-CAE. It has been confirmed that there were no passengers on board the aircraft at the time of the accident, and only the two pilots were traveling in it.

Following the aircraft accident, immediate relief teams acted to rescue the two pilots. The two injured pilots have been hospitalized for treatment, and no other fatalities have been reported from this incident.




Immediately after the incident was reported, the Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka dispatched a team of special officers to the site for investigations. Adverse weather conditions and strong winds are suspected to be the main cause of this accident, and the police and the Civil Aviation Authority are jointly conducting further investigations into the matter.
