Mr. Sagara Kariyawasam, former Member of Parliament and lawyer, and General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), stated the day before yesterday (6) that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa had invited Mr. Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, leader of the People's United Front and former minister, to join the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (Pohottuwa). Mr. Kariyawasam added that the invitation was extended at a dinner held on the night of the 5th at Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa's Nugegoda residence, and he believes that a positive response will be received from Mr. Anura Priyadarshana Yapa to the invitation made by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Mr. Kariyawasam stated that the former President said at the event, "Anura, now join us. We were together before. When we were together, we did a lot of work for the country. The country we saved from terrorism while we were united is being destroyed now that we are separated." Mr. Kariyawasam also mentioned that he and Mr. Namal Rajapaksa, Member of Parliament and National Organizer of the Podujana Peramuna, have been inviting Mr. Anura Priyadarshana Yapa to join Pohottuwa for some time.

A large number of people, including former Speakers Chamal Rajapaksa and Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, former Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, and former Deputy Speaker Ajith Rajapaksa, attended the event.
