The police constable, who was attached to Suriyakanda Police and is currently under suspension in connection with an incident involving Member of Parliament Mr. Shantha Pathmakumara, reported to Kolonna Police today (28). This was to give a statement regarding the incident.
Addressing the media, he stated that he had come to give a statement related to the written complaint he submitted to the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Ratnapura, the day before yesterday (26), regarding the safety of his life.
He further stated that the suspects who assaulted him have not yet been arrested, and their freedom poses a serious threat to his life and the lives of his family members.
Therefore, the police constable told the media that he has requested police protection. He also emphasized that he has not yet received justice regarding this incident.
Meanwhile, regarding an incident that occurred with a Member of Parliament within the Kolonna Police Division on December 20, 2025, the police constable who was attached to Suriyakanda Police Station and is currently under suspension, and his wife, have given statements to various media outlets criticizing the Sri Lanka Police.
Those statements have alleged that the individuals who assaulted the said police constable and snatched his motorcycle have not yet been arrested, and the police have not conducted any investigation regarding the complaint made by him.
However, according to the complaints submitted to Kolonna Police by the police constable and his wife regarding the incident, Kolonna Police Station as well as the Embilipitiya Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau are conducting further investigations.
On the night of December 20, 2025, when the incident occurred, officers on night mobile patrol duty at Kolonna Police Station immediately went to the scene and commenced preliminary investigations. There, the said police officer's motorcycle was taken into police custody from the scene. Additionally, statements from the said officer, his wife, and two other individuals have been recorded, and a medico-legal form (JMO form) has been issued to the officer by the Embilipitiya Hospital Police.
During the investigations conducted by the Embilipitiya Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau, statements have currently been recorded from the Member of Parliament accused of the assault, three residents near the alleged scene of the incident, as well as ten other individuals, including the person who took the officer to the hospital.
Steps have been taken to obtain security camera footage installed at a house near the alleged scene of the incident, and a statement has also been recorded from the owner of that house.
Facts regarding this incident were reported to the Embilipitiya Magistrate's Court on December 22, 2025, and the Embilipitiya Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau is conducting further investigations.
