A lorry driver tragically died in an accident in the Battaramulla, Nidahas Mawatha area, when his parked lorry unexpectedly reversed. The deceased has been identified as 34-year-old Harannagoda Hettigodage Prasad Sameera, a resident of 5 Kanuwa, Kahaduwa, Elpitiya.

Talangama Police stated that he sustained serious injuries after being trapped between the lorry and a wall, and died while being transported to Talangama District Hospital for treatment.

At the time of the incident, the deceased driver was transporting a load of sand from a building materials store in Battaramulla to an adjacent house. After parking the lorry to unload the sand and stepping out, the vehicle unexpectedly began to reverse. The driver attempted to place a chock behind the rear wheel to stop the lorry, but his efforts were unsuccessful. Preliminary police investigations revealed that he was struck by the lorry, thrown, and then crushed between the vehicle and a wall behind it, leading to this fatal accident.

Immediately after the accident, local residents moved the lorry forward and arranged for the injured man to be taken to the hospital for treatment. However, doctors later confirmed that he had already passed away upon admission to the hospital. Talangama Inquirer into Sudden Deaths, Ms. Premalatha Abeywardena, visited the scene and conducted an on-site inspection. She ordered the police to send the deceased's body to the Colombo Police Mortuary for a post-mortem examination until identified by relatives.

Meanwhile, further investigations conducted by the Talangama Police into the incident have revealed crucial information. It was found that the deceased lorry driver did not possess a heavy vehicle driving license, only a license for light vehicles. A team of Talangama Police officers is conducting further investigations into this matter.
