Dehiattakandiya Police report an unfortunate incident where a son, who went to save his father's life after he consumed poison at the Uttarapura cemetery in Dehiattakandiya, tragically died after being caught in a high-voltage electric wire.
The young man who lost his life in this manner is 25-year-old S.H.G. Chanaka Madushan, a resident of Nikawewa area, Dehiattakandiya.
After the deceased young man's father consumed a type of poison, Chanaka Madushan admitted his father to the Dehiattakandiya Base Hospital. Doctors at the hospital instructed Madushan to find and bring the poison bottle his father had consumed. Accordingly, Madushan, who went to the Uttarapura cemetery in Dehiattakandiya to search for the poison bottle, was caught in a high-voltage electric wire set up for pigs and lost his life, Dehiattakandiya Police stated.
Police investigations revealed that two young men residing in the same village had cultivated crops in an unauthorized protected forest area and had set up high-voltage electric wires to protect these crops from pigs. Madushan was electrocuted when he went to retrieve the bottle of poison his father had consumed at the cemetery. Although doctors succeeded in saving the life of the father who drank the poison, the villagers of Dehiattakandiya are deeply shocked by the unfortunate loss of the son's life.
Under the instructions of Acting OIC Chief Inspector Gunawardena of Dehiattakandiya Police, a team of officers including OIC Minor Complaints Division Sub Inspector S.A. Susantha, Sub Inspector Sarath Jayawardena, Police Sergeant (23015) Kumara, and Police Constable (78998) Wijetunga conducted investigations into this death. Accordingly, two young men residing in Uttarapura village, Dehiattakandiya, have been arrested by the police on suspicion.
