Following the heavy rainfall that affected the Kandapola area in recent days, the Sri Lanka Army has launched a special operation to find the missing members of a single family due to a landslide in the Chandirigama area of Kandapola. It is reported that troops from the Nuwara Eliya Lion Regiment intervened and launched these search and rescue operations starting yesterday (01).

In this tragic incident, a mother, two children, and their grandmother have gone missing, and operations to find them are still ongoing. The landslide occurred on the afternoon of the 27th, following torrential rains in the area. Residents have confirmed that all members of the affected family were inside the house at the dangerous moment the house was engulfed by the landslide.

Meanwhile, heavy rainfall in the Ragala and Kandapola areas has led to another disaster, with two settlements in the Ragala Henegala area being submerged by floodwaters. Nearly 100 families have been affected by this flood situation, and the Nuwara Eliya District Disaster Management Unit states that swift action was taken to relocate all displaced persons to safe locations.
