Mr. Jeevan Thondaman, the General Secretary of the Lanka Workers' Congress, has decided to resign from his post. Mr. Thondaman, who also serves as a Member of Parliament for the Nuwara Eliya District, has informed several Vice Presidents by phone to convene the party's National Council regarding this matter.
It is reported that this decision stems from a dispute that arose after the defeat of the local council budget of Mr. Senthil Thondaman, the President of the Lanka Workers' Congress. A senior Vice President of the party also stated that an argument occurred during a phone conversation between Mr. Senthil Thondaman and Mr. Jeevan Thondaman.
Furthermore, it is reported that Mr. Jeevan Thondaman has requested the local government representatives serving as Vice Presidents of the Lanka Workers' Congress to formally withdraw their support for the government in writing.
However, it is further reported that although the General Secretary informed by phone to convene the National Council, senior party members have requested that the appeal be submitted in writing.
