A special task force comprising 41 members, including Japanese doctors, arrived on the island early this morning (04) with the aim of operating a Field Hospital to provide necessary health facilities to the people affected by the prevailing disaster situation in the country.
According to a preliminary field survey conducted by this medical team, plans are underway to establish this temporary hospital near the Chilaw General Hospital.
All technical equipment, including medicines, medical devices, and laboratory facilities required to operate the field hospital, have been brought by the Japanese relief team itself. Operating under the full patronage of the Japanese government, all medical treatments will be provided free of charge.
A special program was implemented to welcome this delegation, which arrived at Katunayake Airport early this morning via flights belonging to Cathay Pacific from Hong Kong and Singapore Airlines from Singapore.
Minister of Science and Technology Krishantha Abeysekera, Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Akio Isomata, and Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena, along with other officials, were present at the Katunayake Airport VIP lounge for the occasion.
