A shooting occurred this morning (31) targeting an inmate who was receiving treatment at the Nagoda Teaching Hospital in Kalutara. The Police Media Division confirms that an unknown gunman broke in and fired at an inmate who was receiving treatment in Ward No. 14 of the hospital under tight security from prison officials, and then fled.




The shooting occurred around 6:00 AM, and preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspect used a revolver-type firearm for the act. The person who was shot is a 35-year-old suspect who was in remand custody on charges of drug trafficking.

He faced this attack while hospitalized for treatment due to an illness that occurred in prison, and he sustained serious injuries to his abdomen from the gunshot. Hospital sources state that the injured inmate has currently been admitted for emergency surgery.




Kalutara South Police Station has currently launched a special investigation to apprehend the suspect involved in the incident.
