Dehiattakandiya Tragedy Claims Lives of Mother and Child

 A mother and a young child have tragically lost their lives in an unfortunate road accident that occurred this afternoon (17) in the Muwagammanna area of Dehiattakandiya. The accident occurred when a passenger bus traveling from Dehiattakandiya towards Mahiyanganaya collided head-on with a three-wheeler coming from the opposite direction.

Police have identified the deceased as a 33-year-old mother and her 2-year-old child, residents of Mawanagama, Dehiattakandiya, who were traveling in the ill-fated three-wheeler with other family members.

Although the three-wheeler's driver, his wife, and their two children, who sustained serious injuries in the collision, were immediately admitted to Dehiattakandiya Hospital, hospital sources state that the mother and the younger child had already succumbed to their injuries.

The other male child from the injured family is 11 years old. Due to the critical condition of both him and the father who was driving the three-wheeler, they have been transferred to Polonnaruwa Hospital for further treatment. The bus driver has been arrested in connection with the accident, and Dehiattakandiya Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
