
Aluthgama Police successfully arrested sixteen Chinese nationals who had rented a luxurious house in the Aluthgama area and were engaged in large-scale online financial fraud while residing there. Based on a confidential tip received by the police yesterday (09) morning,
this sudden raid was carried out, and information has been revealed that the suspects had been camped at this location for a long time, secretly carrying out this racket.Preliminary investigations have revealed that this group committed numerous cybercrimes, including unauthorized access to various individuals' bank accounts worldwide using internet technology to defraud money, and deceiving people through various strategies to obtain funds. During the search of the arrested individuals, twenty Apple mobile phones, fifty SIM cards, and a stock of electronic equipment used for the fraud, including laptop computers, were taken into police custody.
This raid was conducted by the Aluthgama Police under the direct supervision and instructions of Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police, Sajeeva Medawatta, who is in charge of the Western Province.
The arrested Chinese nationals are to be handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department for further legal action regarding the incident and to conduct extensive investigations into this network.
