The person who went missing is Chamara Krishantha, a 31-year-old father of two, who resided in the Hanwella area and was engaged in business activities in Hanwella town.

Due to the prevailing adverse weather conditions, the water level of the Kelani River rose rapidly, leading to a flood situation. At that time, Hanwella Police officers launched a special operation using motorboats to rescue those affected. It is reported that this individual was staying on the upper floor of his house, and although police officers attempted to take him to a safe location, he refused to leave his home at that moment.

Police state that later, as the river's current intensified, a gas cylinder from the house began to be swept away by the water. While attempting to retrieve it, he was caught by the current, swept away, and went missing.

The ongoing high water level in the Kelani River and the prevailing flood situation in the area have severely hampered efforts to locate the missing person. Further investigations into the incident are being conducted by a police team, including Sub-Inspector Sisira Kumara, the OIC of the Hanwella Police Crime Investigation Division.
